According to the law, PTSD is a symptomatic response to psychologically-distressing events which cause ‘fear, helplessness, and horror.’ Symptoms include, but are not limited to: involuntary changes in breathing and/or pulse, loss of bladder or bowel control, anger issues, sleep problems, re-experiencing the original distressing event, difficulty concentrating, and anxiety.
- Minor to Moderate PTSD: £2,600 – £15,250 This level of compensation is appropriate for cases in which the sufferer experiences a complete or nearly complete recovery. Ongoing disabling effects will be minimal.
- Moderately Severe PTSD: £15,250 – £40,000 At this level of compensation, significant long-term disability is clear, but the sufferer has some scope for recovery in the future.
- Severe PTSD: £40,000 – £66,000 This level of compensation is appropriate for cases in which PTSD has a severe and permanent negative impact on every aspect of the sufferer’s life. Returning to pre-trauma conditions is simply not feasible.
