What Exactly Is Dermatitis?

Dermatitis is a condition that tends to be caused by contact with irritating or hazardous substances, such as glue, paints, cement, soap or cleaning products. It is also known as occupational dermatitis, when caused by an individual’s working conditions.

It is a type of eczema, and causes symptoms such as blisters, itchiness, redness and blotchiness. It can lead to sun sensitivity, pain, and a sensation of tightness in your skin.

Dermatitis is not contagious, but can spread to other areas of the body if not adequately treated.

In more severe cases, it can become infected and can cause the skin to crack, leading to the need for further medical treatment and potentially causing other complications.

Occupational Dermatitis Claim

Dermatitis is often caused by an individual’s working conditions. Any job in which you get in contact with irritating substance risks a skin condition.

Construction workers, factory workers, cleaners and hairdressers are often at risks, along with any job in which you often have wet hands.

All employers are obligated to make sure you’re safe at work, and they should always follow the regulations set out at the COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations.

These regulations include precautions designed to reduce risk of employees getting skin conditions. For instance, you should be warned about risks associated with working with chemicals, and receive proper training on the steps to avoid dermatitis. You should also receive PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).

If you get an injury or a condition due to an employer’s negligence, we are ready to help you make a claim to cover the costs and impact of your injury.
